Self-Deception
Self-Deception (Poem)
Deep at the heart of caverns black
Through labyrinthine walls that confuse the way back
Where the Certain are lost, and the Lost are certain
And truth is twisted by mirrors of illusion
There lies in the stillness the voices unspoken
Silenced remains of the beaten and broken
They enter my courts and think they're prepared
But I know not of mercy, and no one is spared
But you're unlike the others; you could be The One
Walk with me, child; and let's have some fun
A beautiful face? A brilliant mind?
Just ask and it's yours; there's nothing to sign!
You've earned every bit, and no one will know
They'll simply adore you – you'll never plateau
Knowing only success, you'll rise to the top
Nothing will touch you; the perks never stop
So what do you say? Will you spin the wheel?
Put your soul on the line and see how you feel
And so it begins; you all take my bait
You think that you won't... until it's too late
The next thing you know, you're a pile of bones
Collapsing around me; the uniqueness of clones
*sigh*
I grow tired of this - you people don't change
You all know my face, it's hardly that strange
Just look in the mirror, see past the reflection
Do you do things for glory? Status? Affection?
Should that be the case, we'll meet again soon
So forego my warning! Think you're immune!
Til next that we meet, don't think you can hide.
The choice was yours.
Sincerely,
Pride

Self-Deception (Lyrics)
[Intro]
Deep in caverns black, echoes fold the light,
Mirrors bend the truth until the day is night.
Listen close… a voice that sounds like velvet knives…
[Verse 1]:
Labyrinth walls hide the way back home,
Where the Certain get lost and the Lost feel known.
Silenced ghosts line my courts, they fall in line,
Beaten, broken? Perfect for my kind.
You step inside, you think you’re brave,
But mercy’s just a word I… never gave.
[Pre-Chorus]
Then you stand there, different, you might be The One,
I smile and say, “Come closer; let’s have some fun!”
[Chorus]
Spin the wheel! Put your soul on the line.
Taste the glory! Watch the world redesign.
Smile for the mirror, feel the poison sweet,
You’ll rise and you’ll conquer… 'til you forget your feet.
[Verse 2]
A face like a headline, a mind like a blade,
No signatures required — the price is paid.
They’ll bow and they’ll whisper, crown you in gold,
I’ll give you the kingdom, I’ll teach you to hold.
You’ll never plateau! Never sink! Never stall!
Until the applause stops… and you hear the fall.
[Chorus]
Spin the wheel! Put your soul on the line.
Taste the glory! Watch the world redesign.
Smile for the mirror, feel the poison sweet,
You’ll rise and you’ll conquer… 'til you forget your feet.
[Bridge]
Look in the glass and tell me what you see:
Is it pride? Is it hunger? A hollow marquee?
You say you’re different, you say you won’t cave…
But I’ve loved this dance, since the cradle to the grave.
The grave.
You think you won’t...
Until it’s too late.
[Breakdown]
I grow tired. You still wear my face.
Do you chase the light? Or chase a higher place?
Glory, status, lovers’ adoration?
I’ll keep your name in my collection.
[Final Chorus]
Spin the wheel! Put your soul on the line.
Taste the glory! Let the angels sign!
Smile for the mirror; taste the sugar and bile.
You’ll rise for a moment… then wither in style.
Spin the wheel… put your soul on the line…
We’ll meet again… when you forget the time.
[Outro]
So forego my warning! Think yourself immune!
Til next that we meet… you’ll sing a different tune.
The choice was yours.
Sincerely,
Pride.
